Nutrinet Brasil is a study designed to follow, over ten years, 200,000 Brazilians from all regions of the country to investigate the relationship between dietary patterns and morbidity and mortality from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
Developed by the Center for Epidemiological Research in Nutrition and Health of the University of São Paulo (NUPENS/USP), the project is based on a fully online scientific survey, with questionnaires made available to participants every three to four months.
To attract new participants and reach the goal of 200,000 people, the study has been leveraging the potential of social media. In 2022, a mobilization campaign was carried out with digital influencers—including Rita Lobo, Paola Carosella, Bela Gil, Pedro Bial and Gregorio Duvivier—who serve as ambassadors for Nutrinet Brasil and promote the study on their profiles.
Use of the study’s fully online database by researchers and the general population, in addition to supporting public agents in formulating new health promotion policies.
participants as of May 2025
academic articles and 49 abstracts published and/or presented at scientific events through May 2025
municipalities—including the Federal District—across all 26 Brazilian states have at least one participant in the study.
In 2024, NUPENS launched
a free online platform based on the Nova System, featuring a database with detailed indicators of food consumption and tools for assessment.
“The partnership between NUPENS and Umane has made it possible both to maintain and expand the team involved in Nutrinet Brasil, as well as to develop and monitor the processes that guide the creation of data collection tools and the study’s platform itself.”
