Carried out by the Altino Ventura Foundation (FAV) in Serra Talhada (PE), the V.E.R. – Visão em Rede (Vision Network) project seeks to improve the screening of vision impairments and organize access to ophthalmic care through an artificial intelligence platform. The solution uses smart portable equipment to map retinal changes, cataracts, glaucoma, and refractive errors in a simplified way, without requiring a specialist physician at the time of screening.
In 2025, the initiative selected and trained medicine and nursing students to support the registration of users—initially students and teachers from the municipal school network—and the performance of vision tests. In total, 3,484 exams were conducted across 18 schools in the municipality.
In the second half of the year, the first functional version of the platform began being used in a real care environment, with its official launch in October. The Altino Ventura Foundation also made progress in developing the Digital Eye Health Wallet, which will consolidate the patient’s history and can be accessed by them or their legal guardian, strengthening the continuity of care.
Guaranteed specialist medical care within 30 days after identifying a patient with an abnormal result during the platform’s triage; maintaining an accuracy rate above 90% when compared to ophthalmologic examinations; and user satisfaction with the digital platform above 70 points.
